A long drive to the wrong palace, 2023
installation
by collective The Artist
Under the name of ‘The Artist’, Bart Lunenburg, Caz Egelie and me have worked together on various installations and exhibitions. The Artist functions as an alter ego, a fictional character that allows us to experiment with various materials and thematics that don’t necessarily have a place in our individual practices.

A long drive to the wrong palace reflects on the experience of the studio visit: the installation gives a personal insight into the process of The Artist, showing their desk in preparation for and looking back at their latest solo exhibition. The work arose from conversations between the three of us on what it is like to open up the privacy of the artistic process, and on how the artist’s studio becomes a romanticized place when put on display for the public eye.
