series of site-specific murals
developed for Academiegalerie, Utrecht (NL)
The first one, placed on the opposite sides of a ceiling beam in the first space: “A VIEWER STRUCK BY A SENTENCE / A READER ADMIRING THE VIEW” mentions the characters of The Viewer and The Reader, who are both each other’s döppelgangers and each other’s opposites at the same time.
The second one, placed on the walls of the second space, reads: “Familiar words passing similar lips / The same song sung by a different tongue / An argument between two identical voices”. These murals focus on the idea of authenticity in writing. I realized that for words, it’s mainly one’s voice that can serve as proof of authenticity. The sentences play with the idea of the same set of words that take on different shapes because of how and by whom they’re being said.
